An AirAsia Airbus A320-200, registration 9M-AHV performing flight AK-5741 from Tawau to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) with 170 people on board, was climbing out of Tawau's runway 24 when the crew stopped the climb at 4000 feet and entered a hold reporting engine (CFM56) trouble. The aircraft landed safely back on Tawau's runway 24 about 1:45 hours after departure.

A replacement A320-200 registration 9M-AGY reached Kuala Lumpur with a delay of about 6.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 24.5 hours, then positioned back to Kuala Lumpur and resumed service.
