An Air Algerie Airbus A330-200, registration 7T-VJA performing flight
AH-3061 from Beijing (China) to Algiers (Algeria), was enroute at FL390 over Sardinia about 370nm northeast of Algiers when the crew needed to shut the left hand engine (CF6) down due to a sudden reduction of N2 associated with high vibrations. The crew requested to descend, drifted down to FL240 and continued the flight to Algiers, where the aircraft landed safely on runway 09 about 70 minutes after leaving FL390.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Algiers about 5 days and 8 hours later.
