An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N143AN performing flight
AA-2611 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Los Angeles,CA (USA) with 174 passengers and 6 crew, was climbing out of O'Hare's runway 10L when the aircraft sustained a number of bird strikes followed by hydraulic and left engine (V2533) generator issues. The crew declared emergency and positioned for a low approach to Chicago's runway 10C advising they had heavy vibrations and wanted the landing gear inspected from the ground. Following the low approach tower reported all three gear struts were down. The aircraft subsequently positioned for a full stop landing on runway 10C and landed without further incident about 28 minutes after departure.
The flight was cancelled.
The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT ON DEPARTURE STRUCK BIRDS AND DECLARED AN EMERGENCY DUE TO HYDRAULIC AND ENGINE GENERATOR ISSUES, RETURNED TO ORD, CHICAGO, IL.", the damage was "UNKNOWN".
The aircraft is still on the ground in Chicago about 19 hours after landing.
