An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N910AU performing flight
AA-2727 from Miami,FL (USA) to Santiago (Dominican Republic), was climbing out of Miami's runway 26L when the crew requested to stop the climb at 9000 feet and was cleared to maintain 10,000 feet MSL. The crew continued to follow the standard instrument departure route. About 5 minutes later the crew advised they needed to return to Miami due to a pressurization issue. The crew requested a slow rate of descent for the return. The aircraft landed safely back on runway 26L about 30 minutes after departure.
A replacement A319-100 registration N9016 departed the following day and reached Santiago with a delay of 21 hours.
