An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N811NN performing flight
AA-671 from Miami,FL to New Orleans,LA (USA) with 170 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Miami's runway 08R when the crew stopped the climb at 3000 feet MSL reporting they had a report from the cabin that a flame spotted out of the right hand engine (CFM56), the crew requested delay vectors while talking to the cabin. The crew further advised they had multiple reports and decided to return to Miami. The aircraft performed an ILS approach to runway 09 and landed safely about 15 minutes after departure. The aircraft vacated the runway and taxied to the apron, the crew advised the engine was looking good.
A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration N878NN reached New Orleans with a delay of about 100 minutes.
The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 19 hours after landing.
