An ANZ Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9, registration ZK-NZH performing flight
NZ-81 from Auckland (New Zealand) to Hong Kong (China), was lining up runway 23L when smoke became visible behind the main wheels and the aircraft became disabled at the runway threshold due to a brakes fault. The aircraft was towed off the runway about 80 minutes after the aircraft stopped, the runway remained closed for landings with intersection takeoffs continuing during that time.
The airline reported a technical issue with its braking system while positioning for takeoff at the end of the runway.
A replacement Boeing 787-9 registration ZK-NZR reached Hong Kong with a delay of about 3 hours.
The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 10 hours later.
