An Azul Linhas Aereas Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration PR-AQM performing flight
AD-4384 from Sao Paulo Viracopos,SP to Rondonopolis,MT (Brazil) with 43 passengers and 4 crew, was climbing out of Viracopos when the crew stopped the climb at FL180 and decided to return to Viracopos due to a fault with the system "smoke". The crew worked the related checklists and landed safely back at Viracopos about 40 minutes after departure.
A replacement ATR-72-212A registration PR-TKM reached Rondonopolis with a delay of about 3.5 hours.
Brazil's CENIPA reported the aircraft suffered a failure of the system "smoke", the crew worked the related checklists and decided to return to Viracopos without declaring emergency. The aircraft landed without further incident. The aircraft received minor damage. The occurrence was rated an incident.
