A Boliviana de Aviacion Boeing 737-800, registration CP-3138 performing flight OB-648 from Cochabamba to Santa Cruz (Bolivia), was climbing out of Cochabamaba when the crew stopped the climb at about FL285 and decided to return to Cochabamba due to an engine (CFM56) temperature increasing. The aircraft landed safely back in Cochabamba about 45 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration CP-2926 reached Santa Cruz with a delay of about 90 minutes.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Cochabamba about 22 hours after landing back.

The airline reported the aircraft needed to return to Cochabamba due to an internal temperature increase in one of the engines. Initial examination of the engine revealed that it had ingested some foreign object causing the temperature increase and related odour in the cabin.
