An Air Botswana Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration A2-ABL performing flight
BP-208 from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Gaborone (Botswana), landed on Gaborone's runway 08 when the aircraft drifted to the left and contacted the runway edge lights before returning onto the center line. The aircraft vacated the runway and taxied to the apron.
The aircraft remained on the ground in Gaborone for 11 days and returned to service on Dec 24th 2025.
Botswana's DAI (Directorate of Accident Investigation) reported: "A puncture due to aquaplaning occurred during landing, causing the aircraft to drift to the left due to heavy rain and the wet runway. The aircraft struck the runway lights located at the edges of the runway." The aircraft sustained minor damage. The occurrence is being investigated.
