A British Airways Boeing 777-200, registration G-VIIM performing flight BA-176 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to London Heathrow,EN (UK), was enroute at FL310 about 210nm east of New York when the crew decided to return to JFK Airport reporting the smell of fumes on the flight deck. The aircraft dumped fuel and landed safely back on JFK's runway 31L about 80 minutes after departure.

The aircraft returned to service about 23 hours after landing back performing the next day's flight BA-176.
