A Calm Air Avions de Transport Regional ATR-42-300, registration C-FECI performing flight MO-224 from Rankin Inlet,NU to Baker Lake,NU (Canada) with 24 people on board, performed a RNAV approach to Baker Lake's runway 16 initiating the approach with about 50 knots of wind. Although the wind slowly decreased the crew had initially problems to see the runway due to the large crab angle and moderate rain. The aircraft crossed the runway threshold at 50 feet AGL and touched down slightly left of the runway centerline, veered to the left of the runway and contacted two runway edge lights. The aircraft subquently taxied to the apron.

The Canadian TSB reported the aircraft encountered 50 knot winds when flying from the initial approach waypoint to the intermediate approach waypoint. A post flight inspection revealed damage to the left main gear landing doors and the weight on wheels switch.
