An Air Canada Airbus A330-300, registration C-GHKC performing flight
AC-894 from Montreal,QC (Canada) to Milan Malpensa (Italy) with 303 people on board, was enroute at FL370 about 30nm northeast of Goose Bay,NL (Canada) when the crew decided to return to Montreal after receiving a low quantity indication for the green hydraulic system. The crew selected the green pump off and declared PAN PAN. On approach to Montreal the crew turned the green hydraulic pump on again to lower the gear. The aircraft landed safely on runway on Montreal's runway 24R about 4:50 hours after departure.
The Canadian TSB reported the aircraft landed back within the landing weight limits. Due to the lack of nose wheel steering the crew shut down on the runway and requested a tow. Maintenance discovered and fixed a hydraulic leak at the #2 engine (Trent 772) pulsation damper.
