An Air Canada Rouge Airbus A321-200, registration C-FJQD performing flight
RV-1637 from Orlando,FL (USA) to Montreal,QC (Canada) with 185 people on board, was climbing through about 1500 feet MSL out of Orlando's runway 17R when the right hand engine (CFM56) ingested a bird prompting the crew to stop the climb at 3000 feet, reduce the right hand engine to idle thrust and return to Orlando for a safe landing on runway 18R about 30 minutes after departure.
The Canadian TSB reported that a biologist identified the bird as a turkey vulture and stated: "ENG 2 (RH) approximately 6 fan blades sustained shingling and significant soft impact damage from mid to 3/4 span (from root) of the blades."
The aircraft is still on the ground in Orlando about 97 hours (4 days 1 hour) after landing back.
