A Cathay Pacific Boeing 747-8 freighter, registration B-LJN performing flight CX-2014 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Hong Kong (China), was enroute at FL350 over the Black Sea when the crew decided to return to Amsterdam. The aircraft climbed to FL360 for the return. On approach to Amsterdam the crew indicated they had requested medical assistance from their company, that was all required for their incapacitated pilot. The aircraft landed safely on Amsterdam's runway 06 about 3 hours after turning around.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 17.5 hours, then departed again for flight CX-2014.
