A Delta Airlines Airbus A321-200N, registration N534DT performing flight DL-333 from Las Vegas,NV to New York JFK,NY (USA), was climbing out of Las Vegas' runway 01R when the crew upon contacting departure reported they had an engine (PW1133G) issue and needed to return to Las Vegas. The aircraft stopped the climb at 9000 feet and positioned for a landing on runway 26L about 30 minutes after departure. Following inspection by emergency services the aircraft taxied to the apron.

A passenger reported fellow passengers saw streaks of flame and heard a bang from the left hand engine, the crew subsequently announced the engine had suffered a compressor stall, everything looked normal but the crew did not feel comfortable to continue on to JFK.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

The aircraft returned to service 3 days later.
