An Easyjet Airbus A319-100, registration G-EZDH performing flight U2-8305 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Milan Malpensa (Italy), was climbing out of Gatwick's runway 08R when lightning struck the aircraft prompting the crew to stop the climb at about FL170 and returned to Gatwick for a safe landing on runway 08R about 30 minutes after departure.

A replacement A319-100 registration G-EZGI reached Milan with a delay of about 3:45 hours.

The airline confirmed the lightning strike.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service after about 18 hours on the ground.
