An Etihad Boeing 787-9, registration A6-BLJ performing flight
EY-141 from Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to Toronto,ON (Canada), was enroute at FL400 when transponder and radio communication failed. The crew established communication with Montreal Area Control and subsequently Toronto Control via CPDLC (Controller-Pilot Data Link Communication) and continued to destination for a safe landing.
The Canadian TSB reported the crew declared PAN PAN due to the loss of transponder and communications.
The occurrence aircraft was able to depart on schedule for the return flight about 7 hours after landing.
