An Eurowings Discover Airbus A330-200, registration D-AXGB performing flight 4Y-142 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Windhoek (Namibia) with 263 passengers and 11 crew, landed on Windhoek's runway 26 at 19:20L (17:20Z) but touched down hard. The aircraft rolled out without further incident.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Windhoek on Feb 24th 2023.

According to information The Aviation Herald received the aircraft sustained substantial damage in a hard landing. Namibia's Authorities have secured the blackboxes and opened an investigation. A maintenance team has been dispatched from Frankfurt to Windhoek.

On Feb 25th 2023 Namibia's DAAII (Directorate of Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation) confirmed the occurrence. The DAAII have opened an investigation into the occurrence, the state of registry Germany, the state of aircraft manufacture France and ICAO have been notified of the occurrence.

On Mar 30th 2023 Namibia's DAAII released their preliminary report summarizing the sequence of events:

The flight performed a stabilized approach in good weather conditions. The tlare was initiated late and the aircraft touched down hard. The landing was performed by the first officer who was on his first flight on the A330 following the initial type rating.

DAAII is investigating this occurrence and will focus on: operational factors, human perfonnance, air traffic control, and On Board Recorders i.e. Digital Flight data recorders (DFDR), Cockpit Voice Recorders (CVR) and the Quick Access Recorder (QAR). Parties to the investigation include the Bundesstelle fur Flugunfalluntersuchung German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU), Bureau d'Enquetes et d'Analyses (BEA-France ), EW Discover GmbH, Airbus, Lufthansa.

On the 20th of February 2023, the DAAll investigator in charge did a preliminary investigation on the ajrcraft's landing gear and airframe and no visible damage was detected. A QAR download was initiated however the interface download could not be performed.
