A Garuda Indonesia Boeing 737-800, registration PK-GNM performing flight GA-532 from Jakarta to Banjarmasin (Indonesia) with 145 passengers and 7 crew, performed an ILS approach to Banjarmasin's runway 10 with winds from 130 degrees between 9 and 15 knots. In the flare the captain, pilot monitoring, noticed the altitude call outs came faster than normal and assisted holding the yoke back with the left hand and the right hand on the thrust levers. The aircraft touched down, bounced at high pitch with the runway going out of sight, the captain called go around and pushed the thrust levers forward, the first officer (pilot flying) also pushed the thrust levers forward. The tail of the aircraft contacted the runway surface before the aircraft settled in a climb, tower reported seeing sparks from the aircraft tail. The aircraft climbed to safety, entered a hold while a runway inspection was conducted, then the aircraft commenced a second approach for a landing without further incident. There were no injuries.

A post flight inspection revealed the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

On Nov 2nd 2023 Indonesia's KNKT released their preliminary report the aircraft sustained substantial damage including structural damage by deformed stringers, clips and frame. The occurrence was rated an accident and is being investigated.
