A Go Air Airbus A320-200N, registration VT-WGZ performing flight G8-43 from Bangalore (India) to Male (Maldives) with 92 people on board, was climbing through FL360 out of Bangalore when the crew received a smoke indication on board, stopped the climb and decided to divert to Coimbatore (India). The aircraft landed safely on Coimbatore's runway 23 about 22 minutes later.

The smoke alarm was identified false, a smoke detector malfunctioned.

A replacement Airbus A320-200N registration VT-WGQ reached Male with a delay of 7 hours.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Coimbatore for about 8 hours, then returned to service.
