A ITA Italia Trasporto Aereo Airbus A320-200N, registration EI-HOC performing flight
AZ-108 from Rome Fiumicino (Italy) to Amsterdam (Netherlands), was climbing out of Fiumicino's runway 25 when a bird impacted the nose of the aircraft. In the absence of abnormal indications the crew continued the climb at FL340 but then decided to return to Fiumicino for a safe landing on runway 16L about 45 minutes after departure.
A replacement A320-200 registration EI-DTE reached Amsterdam with a delay of about 2.5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Rome about 11 hours after landing back.
