An Italia Trasporto Aereo Airbus A330-200, registration EI-EJL performing flight AZ-611 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Rome Fiumicino (Italy), was climbing out of New York's runway 31L when tower queried the crew, whether they had any damage, the crew of an Air France aircraft had reported the AZ-611 had hit them or similiar. The crew replied they had no damage and continued the flight to Rome for a landing without further incident about 8 hours later.

The aircraft subsequently remained on the ground in Rome for 46 hours.

A listener on frequency reported Air France flight AF-8 (B772 F-GSPQ arriving from Paris CDG (France) into JFK) repeatedly called ground telling ground AZ-611 had hit them during taxi and asked to not let AZ-611 depart resulting in a lengthy discussion on frequency. Only then tower queried AZ-611 already after departure.

The Air France Boeing is still on the ground in New York about 64 hours later.

On Jul 1st 2022 the NTSB reported the occurrence causing substantial damage was rated an accident and is being investigated by the NTSB. The NTSB provided the brief summary: "An ITA Airways A330 unknowingly impacted an Air France 777 while taxiing at night."
