A Kenya Airways Boeing 737-800, registration 5Y-CYB performing flight
KQ-311 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Nairobi (Kenya), was departing Dubai's runway 30R when upon rotation some unusual loud noise was heard. The aircraft continued departure but stopped the climb at FL250 and returned to Dubai for a safe landing on runway 30L about 75 minutes after departure.
A postflight inspection revealed the aircraft's tail had made contact with the runway surface causing minor damage, which still permitted the aircraft to depart again.
The aircraft departed again about 3.5 hours after landing back and reached Nairobi with a delay of 3:45 hours.
