A KLM Boeing 737-700, registration PH-BGF performing flight
KL-1884 from Nuremberg (Germany) to Amsterdam (Netherlands), lined up runway 28 via taxiway B (TODA 2022 meters), departed and continued to Amsterdam without further incident.
On Jun 1st 2023 the Dutch Onderzoeksraad (DSB) reported the crew had prepared for a full runway length departure (lining up via taxiway A, TODA 2760 meters), however, subsequently entered the runway via an intersection and started their takeoff run from that point. The occurrence was rated a serious incident, Germany's BFU is investigating.
On Jun 21st 2023 the German BFU reported the aircraft crossed the end of runway 28 at 100 feet AGL after rotating about 347 meters/1140 feet short of the runway end. The BFU is investigating the occurrence rated a serious incident.
On Aug 24th 2023 the BFU advised that the investigation was terminated without final report because the airline had already changed their software and procedures for calculating takeoff performance. The brief abstract read: "While taxiing to Runway 28, the crew of the Boeing 737 of a Dutch airline requested permission from air traffic control to join the runway via an intersection, and to take off from that point. Air traffic control agreed to the request. As the aircraft took off, the remaining runway length proved insufficient. When making calculations for the engine thrust to be selected during takeoff, the crew had entered the entire runway length in the system, despite taking off from an intersection. The selected engine thrust was therefore insufficient for a takeoff from an intersection. "
