A LAM Linhas Aereas De Mocambique Boeing 737-700, registration C9-BAR performing flight TM-144 (Callsign LAM1134) from Maputo to Quelimane (Mozambique) with 99 passengers and 5 crew, landed on Quelimane's runway 18 at about 14:45L (12:45Z) but went left off the runway near the runway end coming to a stop with all gear on the grass between runway and taxiway to assist backtracking. There were no injuries.

A passenger video shows it was raining at the time, the runway, taxiways and grass were wet.

The airline reported: "A LAM aircraft, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, when landing this afternoon on the runway at Quelimane airport, coming from Maputo, ended up sliding, ending up at the end of the runway. The incident, which recorded no human casualties, occurred this afternoon, around 2.40 pm, with the Boeing aircraft, B737-700, C9BAR, which was flying TM 1134, between Maputo and Quelimane. Firefighters from Mozambique's airports rushed in immediately and then passengers and crew disembarked and were taken to airport facilities."

On May 13th 2021 Mozambique's IACM released their preliminary report in Portuguese only stating that the crew reported they felt the aircraft was not slowing down sufficiently. In order to prevent the aircraft from exiting the runway at the end the commander deliberately steered the aircraft to the left, the aircraft came to a stop abeam the runway end 52 degrees off the runway axis. The total ground run had been 1300 meters. The aircraft had touched down beyond the 1000 feet marker of runway 18.

The IACM reported that the read out of the CVR is yet to be done and annotated, that C9-BAR followed a general aviation aircraft which landed just prior but did not report the runway condition or braking efficiency. Tower also failed to inform the crew that the runway was wet.

The flight data recorder revealed the aircraft landed with a tail wind of 10 knots, the aircraft touched down 400 meters past the runway threshold, the runway with 1800 meters length is short and critical for a Boeing 737-700 in wet conditions.

The crew did not consider to use the procedures for landing in wet conditions, including applying flaps 40, positive touchdown in the initial zone of the runway, autobrakes in MAX position, maximum thrust on reversers.
