A Lion Air Boeing 737-900, registration PK-LHR performing flight
JT-800 from Surabaya to Makassar (Indonesia) with 222 passengers and 7 crew, was climbing out of Surabaya's runway 10 when a bird impacted the aircraft prompting the crew to stop the climb at 4000 feet and return to Surabaya for a safe landing on runway 10 about 35 minutes after departure.
A replacement Boeing 737-900 registration PK-LGQ reached Makassar with a delay of about 3.5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 16 hours before returning to service.
The airline reported the aircraft sustained damage to the front right hand side of the airframe.
