A Lufthansa Airbus A330-300, registration D-AIKK performing flight
LH-469 from Austin,TX (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was enroute at FL370 about 150nm northwest of Washington,DC (USA) when the aircraft encountered brief but severe turbulence in clear air causing injuries to a number of people on board. The crew decided to divert to Washington Dulles, where the aircraft landed on runway 19C without further incident about one hour after leaving FL370.
Dulles Airport reported seven people were transported to hospitals.
The airline reported the aircraft encountered brief but severe clear air turbulence about 90 minutes into the flight, flight attendants provided first aid to injured passengers and the aircraft diverted to Washington.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Washington about 14 hours after landing.
