A Malaysia Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration 9M-MTK performing flight
MH-89 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), was accelerating for takeoff from Narita's runway 16R when the crew rejected takeoff at low speed (about 30 knots over ground) due to the left engine (PW4168) emitting flames and smoke and losing thrust causing the aircraft to veer left, the pilots managed to keep the aircraft within the runway and return onto the center line. The aircraft stopped on the runway, emergency services responded. The aircraft remained on the runway for about one hour before returning to the apron.
The airline reported a technical malfunction, the flight was cancelled. Alternative travel arrangements are prepared for the passengers.
