A Play Airbus A320-200N, registration TF-PPA performing flight OG-655 (dep Jun 12th) from Malaga,SP (Spain) to Keflavik (Iceland) with 105 people on board, was nearing Keflavik when the crew declared emergency due to lack of fuel, they suspected a fuel leak. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Keflavik's runway 01.
Icelandic media reported the emergency prompted a massive deployment of emergency services with over 1000 responders.
A post flight inspection revealed there was plenty of fuel on board.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Keflavik for about 85 hours (3 days 13 hours) after landing.
On Jun 23rd 2022 Iceland's RNSA reported the occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated. Approaching the waypoint ETP between Shannon and Keflavik the crew noticed that their estimated fuel on board in Keflavik would be only 300kg. The crew noticed that the outer fuel transfer valves were showing amber and the indications for the outboard tanks were static at 1400kg. As the crew was unsure whether this was an indication problem or the fuel indications were true, the crew declared Mayday and proceeded on their only option available to continue to Keflavik at a higher flightlevel. The crew climbed to FL380 and was cleared direct to Keflavik, which increased their fuel available after landing to 400kg.
