A Porter Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration C-GLQV performing flight
PD-2128 from Newark,NJ (USA) to Toronto Billy Bishop,ON (Canada) with 27 people on board, was climbing out Newark's runway 22R when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence causing temporary loss of control, a passenger received minor injuries. The aircraft continued to Toronto where the aircraft landed without further incident.
On Aug 10th 2023 the Canadian TSB reported: "On departure from KEWR, awaiting next sector climb, in the midst of several frequency changes, the aircraft encountered a cell with other cells on either side. Unable to obtain deviation permission due to ATC workload, the flight crew elected to enter the cloud and started slowing down the aircraft. A "cabin crew be seated" PA was made and complied with; the passenger seatbelt sign was still on from departure. The aircraft experienced severe turbulence including momentary loss of control, which was promptly regained. A passenger, with seatbelt not fastened, sustained a minor injury when their head hit the overhead bin." A subsequent heavy turbulence check did not find any faults.
