A Porter Airlines Embraer ERJ-195-E2, registration C-GKQP performing flight
PD-237 from Toronto,ON to St. John's,NL (Canada) with 55 passengers and 5 crew, was enroute at FL410 about 220nm west of St. John's when the aircraft encountered an updraft and moderate turbulence causing a deviation from assigned altitude by about 1000 feet, the maximum cabin altitude was also exceeded as result. The crew recovered the aircraft however the airspeed exceeded Vmo by about 6 knots. The aircraft continued to St. John's for a safe landing.
The Canadian TSB reported: "During the cruise portion of the flight, an updraft and moderate turbulence was encountered from convective activity below. This resulted in a loss of 1000 feet from the cleared altitude and exceedance of the maximum cabin altitude. When the crew recovered, the aircraft exceeded Vmo by approximately 6 knots."
