A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration 9V-SWI performing flight SQ-636 from Singapore (Singapore) to Tokyo Haneda (Japan) with 249 passengers and 17 crew, was enroute at FL360 about 210nm southsoutheast of Taipei (Taiwan) when the crew decided to divert to Taipei due to a cracked windshield. The aircraft landed safely on runway 05L about one hour later.

The airline reported the aircraft diverted to Taipei due to a cracked windshield. The passengers were taken to hotels. The flight had been renumbered to SQ-9876 to depart the following day and arrive in Tokyo with a delay of about 18 hours.
