A Spirit Airlines Airbus A320-200N, registration N957NK performing flight NK-509 from Las Vegas,NV to Milwaukee,WI (USA), was on approach to Milwaukee when the aircraft sustained a lightning strike prompting the crew to divert to Chicago O'Hare for a safe landing on runway 28C about 40 minutes later.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Chicago about 15 hours after landing.

The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT WAS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING AND THREE LOCATIONS WHERE PAINT WAS DELAMINATED OR MISSING AFT OF THE RADOME, CHICAGO, IL."
