A SriLankan Airlines Airbus A330-200, registration 4R-ALH performing flight UL-606 from Colombo (Sri Lanka) to Sydney,NS (Australia) with 207 passengers and 16 crew, was climbing through about 19500 feet out of Colombo when the crew stopped the climb and descended to FL180 following a lightning strike into the left hand engine (Trent 772). The aircraft returned to Colombo for a safe landing on runway 22 about 75 minutes after departure.

A replacement A330-200 registration 4R-ALT reached Sydney with a delay of about 5.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 91 hours after landing back.
