A Srilankan Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration 4R-ALR performing flight
UL-454 from Colombo (Sri Lanka) to Tokyo Narita (Japan), was climbing out of Colombo's runway 22 when the crew levelled off at 3000 feet due to being unable to retract the landing gear. The aircraft burned off fuel and returned to Colombo for a safe landing on runway 22 about 2:40 hours after departure.
The aircraft remained on the ground for about 23 hours then returned to service.
On Jul 21st 2023 Sri Lanka's AIB reported they rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation due to a gear retraction fault and gear R-lengthening fault.
