A Swiss International Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration HB-JHN performing flight
LX-52 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Boston,MA (USA) with 206 passengers and 12 crew, was enroute at FL380 over the Atlantic Ocean about 660nm westsouthwest of Dublin (Ireland) when the crew decided to turn around and divert to Shannon (Ireland) due to smoke in the cabin ultimately changing to Dublin. The aircraft landed safely on Dublin's runway 28L about 100 minutes later.
The remainder of the flight as well as the return flight were cancelled.
The airline reported a powerbank of a passenger emitted smoke. The passengers were taken to hotels.
A passenger reported there had been smoke in the business class due to an overheating power bank.
On Aug 10th 2026 the Irish AAIU reported they have opened an investigation into the occurrence after reports of smoke in the cabin from a portable power bank, that had lodged into a passenger seat's reclining mechanism.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Dublin about 14 hours after landing.
