An Air Tanzania Bombardier C-Series CS-300, registration 5H-TCH performing flight
TC-106 from Dar-es-Salaam to Mbeya (Tanzania) with 122 people on board, was climbing out of Dar-es-Salaam's runway 05 when the crew decided to return to Dar-es-Salaam due to an engine (PW1524G) malfunction also emitting smoke into the cabin. The aircraft landed safely back on Dar-es-Salaam's runway 05 about 70 minutes after departure.
Passengers reported there was thick smoke in the cabin making breathing difficult.
The airline reported there had been an engine malfunction in flight, the smoke in the cabin lasted for less than 5 minutes before it was brought under control. There were no injuries and no signs of health implications.
A replacement BCS3 registration 5H-TCL reached Mbeya with a delay of about 5.5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Dar-es-Salaam on Feb 29th 2024.
