A TAP Air Portugal Airbus A330-200, registration CS-TON performing flight TP-67 from Lisbon (Portugal) to Curitiba,PR (Brazil), was climbing through FL300 out of Lisbon over the Atlantic Ocean when the crew initiated a rapid descent to FL100 (levelling off at FL100 about 6 minutes later, average rate of descent 3333 fpm), turned around to return to Lisbon and entered holdings to burn off fuel. The aircraft landed safely on Lisbon's runway 02 about 1:50 hours after departure.

The airline reported a technical problem.

A replacement A330-200 registration CS-TOP reached Curitiba with a delay of about 11 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 22 hours after landing back.
