A TAP Air Portugal Airbus A330-900, registration CS-TUL performing flight TP-288 from Luanda (Angola) to Lisbon (Portugal) with 148 passengers and 10 crew, taxied to Luanda's runway 23 for takeoff from intersection E, because works on the runway were in progress. The aircraft was accelerating for takeoff from Luanda's runway 23 when the captain observed the runway end coming nearer too early as the aircraft accelerated through 147 KIAS and applied full thrust permitting the aircraft to rotate at the runway end, the aircraft became airborne at 163 KIAS just at the runway end about 7 seconds after full thrust was applied. Flight attendants reported to the flight crew, that dust was seen outside of the aircraft during rotation, that observation was confirmed by tower. The crew continued the flight to Lisbon for a landing without further incident about 7.5 hours after departure. There were no injuries and no damage to the aircraft.

Portugal's GPIAA reported the aircraft took with a gross mass of 191394 kg at 163 KIAS (Vr) exactly at the end of the runway 7 seconds after full thrust had been applied. The crew had, without identifying that they had not selected intersection E for their takeoff computations, computed the takeoff performance for a full length takeoff. Takeoff from Intersection E leaves a TODA of 2140 meters/TORA of 1900 meters, the full length of the runway is 3700 meters. The aircraft thus performed a flex takeoff at 85% N1. The investigation is ongoing.
