A Trans Maldivian Airways de Havilland DHC-6-300 on floats, registration 8Q-TMO performing flight a flight from an unknown point of origin to Miriandhoo Westin Maldives Aerodrome (Maldives) with 10 passengers and 3 crew, landed at Miriandhoo's water aerodrome, when upon apply reverse thrust the crew heard an unusual sound and the aircraft began to bank right. The captain shut both engines down, managed to regain control of the aircraft and brought the aircraft to a stop. The crew observed the right hand float had detached. The passengers were disembarked onto dinghies and taken to the island, the aircraft was subsequently towed to the island with the assistance of dinghies.
Maldives AICC reported there was visible damage to the float assembly, the rear spreader bar attachment bolt was missing, the right float aft spreader bar attachment fitting was damaged, a right hand propeller blade cut into the right float, flywire left hand buckled and right hand snapped. Maldives CAA ordered an immediate mandatory inspection of floats/fuselage and attachment fittings and bolts for corrosion and cracks. The occurrence was rated an accident and is being investigated.
