A TUI Airways Boeing 737-800, registration G-TAWI performing flight
BY-6624 from Bournemouth,EN (UK) to Rhodes (Greece), was in the initial climb out of Bournemouth's runway 26 when the aircraft received a bird strike prompting the crew to stop the climb at 4000 feet. The aircraft later climbed to 5000 and 10,000 feet and diverted to London Gatwick,EN (UK) for a safe landing on runway 26L about 90 minutes after departure.
The flight BY-4660 from London Gatwick was upgraded from a Boeing 737-800 to a Wamos Air Airbus A330-300 registration EC-NTY and reached Rhodes with a delay of about 7 hours (for
BY-6624) and about 5:50 hours (BY-4660).
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Gatwick about 28 hours after landing.
A ground resident reported the aircraft sounded like a propeller aircraft as it passed overhead.
