A United Boeing 777-200, registration N224UA performing flight
UA-990 from San Francisco,CA (USA) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) with 273 passengers and 12 crew, was enroute at FL330 about 580nm north of Denver about to enter Canadian Airspace when the crew decided to turn south and divert to Denver due to an engine (PW4090) issue. The aircraft maintained FL330 during the diversion, advised ATC no assistance was needed but requested the longest runway available, and landed safely on Denver's runway 16R about 90 minutes later.
The airline reported the aircraft diverted due to an engine issue.
The FAA stated: "United Airlines Flight 990 landed safely at Denver International Airport around 10:55 p.m. local time on Thursday, March 28, after the crew reported a possible mechanical issue. The Boeing 777 departed from San Francisco International Airport and was headed to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in France. The FAA will investigate."
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 30 hours after landing.
