A Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800, registration VH-IJQ performing flight VA-555 from Sydney,NS to Perth,WA (Australia), was cleared for takeoff from Sydney's runway 34L and began to increase thrust for takeoff when the crew noticed a Quantas Boeing 737 begin crossing the runway ahead of them at taxiway L. The crew reduced thrust and stopped on the runway, at the same time tower radioed the cancellation of the takeoff clearance.

A Qantas Boeing 737-800, registration VH-XZH performing flight QF-728 from Sydney,NS to Ayers Rock,NT (Australia), was crossing runway 34L.

Australia's ATSB reported the Qantas crew reported to have received clearance to cross runway 34L. A short investigation has been opened. After the Qantas B738 had crossed the runway, the VA B738 received takeoff clearance again and departed.
