A Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800, registration VH-IWQ performing flight
VA-855 from Melbourne,VI to Sydney,NS (Australia), was on final approach to Sydney's runway 25 when the crew was cleared to land with the remark, that an A380 was in position on runway 34L but was holding. The aircraft landed safely, after rolling through the intersection of runway 25 with runway 34L the Airbus A380 received takeoff clearance. The Boeing vacated the runway, contacted ground and began taxi towards the apron, which involved crossing runway 34L. Ground issued a clearance to cross runway 34L. The Boeing crew however saw the A380 still on their departure roll and queried ground about the crossing clearance. Ground then instructed to hold position, the crew stopped clear of runway 34L.
A Singapore Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration 9V-SKQ performing flight SQ-222 from Sydney,NS (Australia) to Singapore (Singapore), was accelerating for takeoff, being cleared for takeoff from runway 34L, and was about to rotate when the aircraft passed the intersection with the taxiway, the Boeing was on.
The Australian TSB reported: "The Airbus A380 was on its initial climb as it passed through the taxiway intersection, with the Boeing 737 about 300 m from the runway 34L holding point." and stated: "The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating an air traffic control error that occurred at Sydney Airport on 14 November 2022, involving a taxiing Boeing 737 and an Airbus A380 aircraft, departing on runway 34L."
