A VivaAeroBus Airbus A320-200, registration XA-VAV performing flight VB-3235 from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara (Mexico), was climbing out of Puerto Vallarta's runway 22 when the crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet after the right hand engine (V2527) emitted a huge bang, streaks of flames and smoke. The aircraft returned to Puerto Vallarta for a safe landing on runway 22 about 30 minutes after departure.

The aircraft is still on the ground about 12 hours after landing back.

On May 5th 2023 Mexico's DAAAI reported at about 3000 feet a very loud noise was heard from the #2 engine, the ECAM displayed engine #2 fail, engine #2 stall, EGT over limit and EGT exceeded. The aircraft returned to the departure airport. The occurrence was rated an incident and is being investigated by Mexico's DAAAI.
