A Volaris Airbus A320-200, registration N518VL performing flight
Y4-512 from Tijuana to Monterrey (Mexico), was descending towards Monterrey when the crew aborted the descent at about FL170 after flying through hail. The aircraft climbed to FL260 and diverted to Torreon for a safe landing on runway 31 about 50 minutes later. The aircraft sustained damage to nose cone and both windshields.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Torreon about 65 hours after landing.
On Jun 1st 2023 Mexico's DAAAI reported the occurrence was rated a serious incident, the aircraft sustained minor damage. On approach to Monterrey the aircraft flew through a storm with hail causing damage to windshield and radome.
