Flight tracker questions
How live is the flight tracker map?
Positions come from ADS-B receivers worldwide via Aviation Edge and are updated every 5 minutes, so a reported position is usually 5 to 15 minutes old. Between updates the map moves each plane forward along its last known heading and speed, so what you see is an estimate of where it is now.
Why is a flight missing from the map?
Only aircraft that are airborne and report a flight number and both airports are shown. Aircraft over oceans or remote areas without receiver coverage, private and military flights, and flights that have not departed yet or have landed are not on the map. Use the flight status page for scheduled times, gates and delays.
How do I find a specific flight?
Type the flight number (for example BA196) or an airline code (for example A3) in the box above the map. Select a plane to see its route, altitude, speed and aircraft, with a link to the full flight status.
