A S7 Sibir Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration VQ-BRQ performing flight
S7-5223 from Novosibirsk to Chita (Russia), was on final automatic ILS approach to Chita's runway 29 in instrument meteorologic and night conditions at 08:09L (23:09Z Aug 14th) when tower informed the crew that the ILS had encountered a problem. The crew initiated a go around, entered a hold, attempted a second approach about 30 minutes later and descended along the ILS to decision height but could not establish visual contact with the runway, went around and subsequently diverted to Ulan-Ude (Russia) climbing to FL220 enroute. The aircraft landed safely in Ulan Ude.
On Sep 12th 2020 Rosaviatsia reported the localizer beacon failure was caused by the malfunction of localizer antenna 7 as result of a fracture of the copper conductor from the high frequency connector to the antenna.
Position data received from the aircraft via ADS-B suggest the aircraft had not deviated from the extended center line or the glidepath on either approach.
