An Allegiant Airbus A320-200, registration N217NV performing flight
G4-2471 from Orlando Sanford,FL to Plattsburgh,NY (USA), was in the initial climb out of Sanford's runway 27R when the aircraft flew through birds and received a number of bird strikes prompting the crew to stop the climb at 2000 feet and return to Sanford for a safe landing on runway 27R about 12 minutes after departure.
The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT STRUCK BIRDS ON DEPARTURE AND DAMAGE WAS FOUND TO THE BLADES OF THE #2 ENGINE (CFM56), ORLANDO, FL.", the damage was "unknown" and the occurrence was rated an incident.
A replacement A320-200 registration N220NV reached Plattsburgh with a delay of about 2:15 hours.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Orlando about 27 hours after landing back.
