An American Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration N766US performing flight AA-2461 from Washington National,DC to Portland,ME (USA), was climbing out of Washington's runway 19 when the crew advised they had hydraulic problems and stopped the climb at 5000 feet. After entering holdings to work the related checklists and burning off fuel the crew decided to divert to Washington Dulles,DC (USA) for a safe landing on runway 19C about 90 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the crew announced they lost hydraulics immediately after takeoff. They received a voucher for a taxi back to Washington National, but were otherwise left without assistance and no accomodation.

The flight was cancelled.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Washington about 47 hours after landing.
